I never
asked for this –
I only wanted what they all had.
And that's not so much to ask for, is it?
To see a tree and say, "well I'll climb that!"
I must have picked up all their bad habits
I must have missed the moment we changed tracks
Now the lines are getting all muddled
Now I'm struggling to play it back
The cartoons were all rags to riches
But I'd rather we invest in rags
The owners lied to me at the clubhouse
Their golden compass was all out of whack
I'm slowly writing down my new directions
I'm being wary of the word 'fact'
I'm believing in us all at once
I'm following the both, and
My heart is giving, giving, giving
And the soil is giving, giving back
I only hope my bones will travel with me
Just –
could my father ever smile on seeing that?
