Here I am
on this hillside,
at last,
sat beside
my woman and my dog
He nibbles at the grass
we read our books quietly
while motors rev in the distance
and some far off man
commands his sheep, or cows,
we cannot figure it out
and those beautiful trees in front of us
that look like pines from a distance
but have the soft long leaves
of something else –
they sway ever so slowly in
the lukewarm breeze
and I feel it now
the rare sense of satisfaction,
that I am enough,
that I am so lucky,
that I am so blessed
with this beautiful family of three,
with this hillside,
this woman and this dog,
and not only do they sit
beside me now
but for the whole of
the rest of their lives:
I will be this lucky
because they have also chosen me
